In a significant move, the UAE has announced a 2-month grace period for visa violators. Starting September 1, 2024, those who have overstayed their residency visas can either regularize their status or leave the country without facing fines.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) revealed this compassionate decision, reflecting the UAE’s core values of tolerance.
Previously, overstaying residents, tourists, and visit visa holders faced a daily fine of AED50.
This grace period provides an opportunity for violators to correct their status or depart without financial penalties, simplifying the residency visa process and offering a fresh start for many.
