The UAE and Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting committees will hold a meeting this week to sight the Dhul Hijjah moon. The meeting is arranged on Sunday, June 18th, which falls on the 29th of Dhul Qadah.
According to the astronomical calculations, Dhul Qadah is said to be 29 days this year and Monday, June 19th, will mark the first day of Dhul Hijjah. Islamic months consist of 29 or 30 days, unlike the Gregorian calendar which typically includes 31 days.
On the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims in the Gulf area and other countries celebrate Eid Al Adha.
The UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources made an announcement on Sunday that the Eid Al Adha vacation will start from Dhul Hijjah 9 to 12 as per the Islamic Hijri calendar. Dhul Hijjah 9 marks Arafat Day which is likely to fall on Tuesday, June 27 followed by three days.
UAE residents will enjoy an extended break, as a six-day holiday period from Tuesday, June 27 to Sunday, July 2, including the two-day weekend. This upcoming break is set to be the longest of the year, providing both public and private sector employees.
