For many UAE residents, the promise of an extended weekend is akin to a breath of fresh air, providing a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the workweek. The upcoming long weekend in January 2024 is set to kick off the new year on a leisurely note, as workers get a well-deserved day off on Monday, January 1st.

As the first public holiday of 2024, January 1st offers a respite to those who typically navigate the Monday-to-Friday work grind. This translates into an extended weekend, with Saturday, December 30th, and Sunday, December 31st, seamlessly flowing into the New Year's Day break. UAE residents will then resume their work routine on Tuesday, January 2nd, feeling recharged and ready to tackle the year ahead.

Looking ahead, the UAE Cabinet has already unveiled a roadmap of public holidays for both the public and private sectors in 2024.

Here is the list of public holidays in UAE for 2024:

  • Monday, January 1: New Year's Day
  • Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3: Eid Al-Fitr
  • Dhu Al Hijjah 9: Arafat Day
  • Dhu Al Hijjah 10 to 12: Eid Al-Adha
  • Muharram 1: Islamic New Year
  • Rabi' Al-Awwal 12: Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) birthday
  • Monday, December 2: National Day
  • Tuesday, December 3: National Day holiday

While the dates of some holidays are officially confirmed, it's worth noting that a few remain subject to Moon-sightings, a tradition that plays a role in determining the exact timing of certain celebrations. Scholars, however, can reliably estimate these dates within a two-to-three-day window.
