Two Arab Filmmakers to Join Venice Film Festival Juries

Two Arab filmmakers will join the juries of the Venice Film Festival this year.
Mauritanian director Abderrahmane Sissako will join the Main Competition jury.
Sissako's 2002 film 'Waiting for Happiness' won the Fipresci Prize in Cannes's Un Certain Regard. His 2014 'Timbuktu' competed for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and an Academy Award nomination for 'Best Foreign Language Film'.
Syrian filmmaker Soudade Kaadan will be part of the Orizzonti category panel. Kaadan's short film 'The Day I Lost My Shadow' won the Lion of the Future Award for Best Debut Film at the Venice Film Festival in 2018.
Various Middle Eastern films will be screened at the film festival, which will run from Aug. 28 to Sep. 7.
