Tips for Breastfeeding Women for Fasting During Ramadan

Consult Your Doctor

Consult your doctor if you decide to fast because he or she will tell you if you can fast while breastfeeding.

Drink a lot of Water Outside of Fasting Hours

Breastfeeding leaves mothers thirsty, so they are advised to drink lots of water before fasting and after breaking the fast.

Take Prenatal Vitamins

Breastfeeding mothers are advised to take prenatal vitamins daily during Ramadan if they decide to fast because these vitamins will maintain their physical well-being.

Have a Balanced Diet during Ramadan

Breastfeeding mothers have to have a balanced diet during Ramadan, outside of fasting hours.

These women are advised to have 500 extra calories in addition to the daily recommended amount of 2000 calories for females.

Breastfeeding mothers are also advised to have lots of fruits and vegetables as well as foods rich in minerals and calcium.

Rest

Breastfeeding women are advised to rest properly for two hours before feeding their babies.

These mothers are also advised to get an average of eight hours of sleep daily during the night in Ramadan to avoid fatigue and dehydration.

Avoid Strenuous Activities

Breastfeeding mothers are advised to avoid strenuous activities, exercises, and tasks completely during the fasting period to preserve their energy.

Keep Cool

If you're a breastfeeding mother and you live in a region with a hot climate during Ramadan, then you need to ensure that you keep cool during fasting hours.
