Abu Dhabi authorities have permitted heavy vehicles to use the second right lane for overtaking purposes only, from Benona Bridge to Ikad Bridge in both directions on Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Street.
Drivers of heavy vehicles are urged to follow safety guidelines for their well-being and that of other road users. They are advised to remain in the right lane unless overtaking.
Before overtaking, drivers should check their side mirrors to ensure there are no blind spots and use signals early on. After completing the overtaking maneuver, they should return to the right lane.
This decision aims to enhance traffic safety in the UAE and bolster the logistical transport sector by minimizing traffic congestion in the Emirates.
According to the authorities, the road will be under surveillance by traffic patrols and smart systems. Violators of overtaking rules will face enforcement action.
