What Is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide. It’s a time for fasting from dawn to dusk, increased prayers, and acts of charity. The month commemorates the revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and is considered a time for spiritual reflection, devotion, and community.
Changes to Work Hours During Ramadan
In the UAE, the holy month of Ramadan comes with changes to the workday. Labour laws mandate shorter working hours, reducing the standard eight-hour workday to six hours for most workers. However, it’s important to note that this reduction doesn’t apply to all employees, and commuting time is usually excluded from working hours.
Expected Dates for Eid Al Fitr 2025
Eid Al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, and the dates for this celebration have been tentatively set. If Ramadan lasts for the full 30 days, Eid will be from Monday, March 31, to Thursday, April 3, 2025. However, if Ramadan completes 29 days, Eid will begin on Sunday, March 30, and continue until Wednesday, April 2.
In either case, the Eid holiday offers an extended break for UAE residents. It’s a time for families to come together and celebrate the end of Ramadan, enjoy communal prayers, and participate in gatherings and charitable activities. The official confirmation of Eid’s exact dates will be announced closer to the end of Ramadan by the Moon-sighting committee, which includes religious scholars and astronomers.
Embracing Ramadan’s Essence
As Ramadan approaches, Muslims in the UAE and around the world are preparing to embrace the spiritual significance of the month. It’s a time of reflection, devotion, and connection with others. Whether it’s through fasting, prayer, or acts of kindness, Ramadan is an opportunity for personal growth and to strengthen the sense of community.
The official confirmation of Ramadan’s start and Eid dates will be made closer to the time, but for now, the countdown is on, and families are getting ready for this important spiritual period.
