This just in! The RTA (that's Roads and Transport Authority for you) in Dubai has announced its plans to introduce new minimum fare rates, which will also be known as flag fall rates, for traditional metered taxis and Hala service. If you don't know what that is, it is is a ride-hailing service that can be accessed through mobile apps. These new rates will occur during "major events," starting with New Year's Eve.
This news means that passengers will need to pay a minimum of Dhs20 to start their rides. The same flag fall rate will also apply to locations where firework displays take place on NYE in the emirate.
