Afghanistan advances to the Super 8 stage after defeating Papa New Guinea by seven wickets on Friday, Jun. 14 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.
With this win, Afghanistan ended the chances of New Zealand's chances of qualifying for the Super 8 stage even though the latter have two games left.
Papa New Guinea batted first but were all out at 95 runs only. Kipling scored 27 runs in 32 balls while Alei Nao scored 13 runs in balls, which helped boost the team's score.
Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq took five wickets within the powerplay. Farooqi was named the Player of the Match for the second time in the tournament.
Afghanistan's Gulbadin Naib scored 49 runs in 36 balls and Mohammad Nabi scored 16 runs in 23 balls, which boosted their team's score.
The team's next match is with West Indies on Tuesday, Jun. 18.
