Emirati astronaut Dr Sultan Al Neyadi has reached the halfway point of his historic six-month space mission at the International Space Station (ISS).

In the three months that have passed since his arrival at ISS on March 3rd, Dr Al Neyadi has become the first Arab to perform a spacewalk, he has carried out essential experiments for many researchers around the world, and he has also had live calls with heads of state and space enthusiasts.

The director-general of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) Salem Al Marri congratulated Dr Al Neyadi on this milestone.

Not only did Dr Al Neyadi complete his first spacewalk, but he also left ISS with his colleagues to relocate the Dragon capsule through which they had travelled. The relocation freed up the space for the arrival of the Axiom 2 mission including Saudi astronauts Rayyanah Barnawi and Ali Al Qarni.

The Emirati astronaut is carrying out more than 200 experiments during his stay at ISS, which are assigned to him by his colleagues from NASA and from universities in the UAE.

The astronaut is expected to return to Earth in late August.
