Studio Ghibli Received the Honorary Palm d'Or at Cannes 2024

Everyone's beloved Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli received the Honorary Palm d'Or on Monday, May 20 at the Cannes Film Festival 2024.
Head of Creative Development at Ghibli, filmmaker Goro Miyazaki received the trophy from Cannes feature film jury member Juan Antonia Bayona at the Grand Théâtre Lumière.
Before the honorary award was given, the studio's movie highlights were played featuring famous animated films like 'Castle in the Sky'.
Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki was unable to travel to Cannes, France, but he thanked the film festival and fans through video for the honor.
Upon receiving the award, Goro Miyazaki said, "Ghibli was launched 40 years ago by Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata and Tokuma Shoten. They may be the studio’s biggest contributors, but I want to extend this award to all the hard-working teams."
The filmmaker shared four shorts with the audience, three of which were never screened outside of Japan.
These shorts are titled 'Mei and the Kittenbus', 'Looking for a Home', 'Mr. Dough and the Egg Princess', and 'Boro the Caterpillar'.
