Pet owners in Abu Dhabi are now required to register their microchipped cats and dogs under a newly introduced animal ownership system. The mandatory registration, which started on February 3, 2025, comes with a one-year grace period for individuals, while establishments housing pets must complete the process within six months.

Why Registration Is Required

The Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport introduced this system to:

  • Reduce the stray animal population
  • Track pet records for better identification
  • Improve overall animal welfare

Additionally, abandoning pets is a violation of animal welfare laws in Abu Dhabi, carrying a fine of AED2,000 for leaving animals on the street. Neglect or mistreatment of pets can result in fines of up to AED5,000 under Article 471 of the UAE Penal Code.

How to Register Your Pet

Pet owners can complete registration through the TAMM platform via veterinary facilities. The process is free of charge.

Required Documents

  1. Commercial license (for establishments)
  2. Reference number
  3. Veterinary medical report

Steps to Apply

  1. Log into TAMM using UAE Pass.
  2. Submit the application along with the necessary documents.
  3. Receive an animal file number or animal registration certificate upon approval.

Key Points to Remember

  • Pets must be fully immunized before obtaining a registration certificate.
  • The pet must be at least 12 weeks old for certificate issuance. If younger, a personal file number will be assigned until immunizations are completed.
  • The registration certificate is valid for one year, expiring upon the next vaccination date.

By registering your pet, you ensure compliance with the new regulations while contributing to better pet welfare in Abu Dhabi.
