According to a senior official, there are no intentions for the UAE to force smaller businesses to meet their Emiratization goals.

The policy won't change to include companies with fewer than 50 skilled employees, as per Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, who noted that tens of thousands of Emiratis had been successfully put in new private-sector positions.

Companies that didn't make sure that 2% of their employees were Emirati by January 1 were hit with fines of Dh400 million ($108 million) on Wednesday by the federal government. 13,000 businesses with more than 50 employees met the requirements. Free zone businesses are exempt from compliance.

Speaking to The National, Abdulrahman Al Awar said, “We will not change the government’s policy about Emiratisation in the private sector. There is no need for additional interventions. There will be no surprises in Emiratisation policy that will cause confusion in the job market."

Speaking last week at the ministry's offices in Dubai, he said the policy was effective in 2022 and anticipated further success in the years to come.
