In a significant move aimed at enhancing Dubai's rural areas, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, has approved a comprehensive master plan for the Saih Al Salam Scenic Route. This initiative, directed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, seeks to transform Dubai's countryside and promote sustainable tourism.

Key Highlights of the Master Plan

The Saih Al Salam Scenic Route plan will establish five service and recreational stations designed to provide an exceptional tourist experience for both residents and visitors. These developments will be executed in collaboration with the private sector, ensuring a blend of innovation and local culture.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan also sanctioned 37 projects and initiatives focused on the development of Dubai’s rural areas from 2024 to 2028, with an estimated cost of AED 390 million. This portfolio reflects the emirate's commitment to enhancing its natural landscapes while providing modern amenities.

Vision for Tourism and Investment

In his statements, Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the importance of these projects in reinforcing Dubai's position as a premier tourist destination. The goal is to boost annual tourist numbers from around 500,000 to over three million by 2040. The developments will expand investment opportunities while preserving the unique identity of the region.

“This master plan aims to transform Dubai’s rural areas into attractive and enjoyable destinations for all,” said Sheikh Hamdan. The new projects will ensure that residents and visitors can access various services and facilities while enjoying nature and adventure.

Comprehensive Development Goals

The Master Plan for the Saih Al Salam Scenic Route includes:

  • Five Tourist Stations: Each station will cater to different interests, from cultural experiences to adventure sports.
  • Cycling Tracks: A total of 156.61 kilometers of cycling paths will be developed, enhancing recreational opportunities.
  • Sustainable Environment: The initiatives are designed to preserve the environment while offering integrated facilities that align with modern lifestyle requirements.

Planned Facilities and Attractions

  1. Main Hub Station: Located near Al Qudra Lakes, this hub will feature a traditional market, an open-air cinema, and luxury camping options, making it a vibrant social and cultural spot.

  2. Wildlife Station: Near Flamingo Lake, this station will offer hot air balloon rides and luxury camps, allowing visitors to experience the area's unique wildlife.

  3. Adventure Station: This facility near Expo 2020 Lake will include an adventure park and various walking and cycling trails.

  4. Cultural Experience Station: Situated near a camel farm in Al Marmoom, it will provide a traditional majlis and activities that showcase local heritage.

  5. Desert Adventure Station: This area will focus on outdoor desert sports, including dune bashing and sandboarding, providing thrill-seekers with numerous activities.

Immediate Developments and Future Plans

The first phase of the rural and countryside development plan will introduce 18 new services, including:

  • Three Nurseries
  • Seven Parks and Open Spaces
  • Three Healthcare Facilities: A hospital, a health center, and an ambulance station.

Additionally, the plan will ensure the availability of civil defense and emergency services while establishing community facilities for social engagement.

Ongoing and Upcoming Projects

The Higher Committee for Urban Planning in Dubai is overseeing the execution of these 37 projects across 2,216 square kilometers. Key developments include:

  • Cultural and Socio-Cultural Centers: Such as a public library and art exhibition hall in Lahbab.
  • Healthcare Facilities: Being constructed in multiple locations to provide essential medical services.
  • Transportation Solutions: Plans for shared transport systems and traffic improvements to facilitate access to rural areas.

A Long-Term Vision

The Dubai Countryside and Rural Areas Development Plan is part of a 20-year vision aligned with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. It aims to enhance the living standards of residents while promoting local agriculture and tourism. Each area will retain its unique character, supported by initiatives that foster local produce and community engagement.

By focusing on sustainable development, improving public services, and enhancing recreational spaces, Dubai is setting a standard for integrating urban and rural life, ultimately making it a desirable destination for living and visiting.
