Sharjah's Executive Council has introduced a new regulation that allows prisoners to be released on parole after completing a portion of their sentence. This move aims to create a balance between rehabilitation and maintaining public safety.

Parole Eligibility and Terms

Under the new rules, inmates can apply for conditional release after serving three-fourths of their sentence. For those sentenced to life imprisonment, parole is possible after completing at least 20 years.

While on parole, inmates must adhere to certain restrictions, with the parole period set for a minimum of one month, extendable based on individual cases.

Approval and Oversight

The decision to grant conditional release will rest with the Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, ensuring each case undergoes thorough evaluation. Once approved, Sharjah's public prosecution will be informed to enforce the decision.

Additional Guidelines

The regulation also defines the terms and conditions for granting parole, including potential obstacles to eligibility, reasons for cancellation, and the enforcement process. These measures aim to ensure transparency and consistency in how parole decisions are implemented.

This update reflects Sharjah's commitment to fostering a system that prioritizes rehabilitation while safeguarding societal security.
