Dubai Municipality has revealed a revised sewage system fee structure, marking the first change in a decade. The new fees will be implemented gradually over the next three years, affecting both residential and business accounts.
The new charges aim to promote water conservation and support Dubai’s long-term sustainability goals. This initiative is part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which seeks to meet the growing needs of the city's population and infrastructure.
What the New Sewage Fees Look Like
Starting in 2025, the sewage fee will increase to 1.5 fils per gallon. This will rise to 2 fils per gallon in 2026, and then 2.8 fils per gallon in 2027.
Although these increases represent a fee hike, the authorities emphasize that Dubai’s new sewage tariff is still lower than the global average, even in cities with similar economic status. The move comes as part of Dubai's efforts to ensure its infrastructure is future-ready, providing the necessary services to cater to its growing population, which is expected to reach 7.8 million by 2040.
Why the Changes?
With Dubai’s rapid economic growth and a sharp increase in residents and visitors, the city needs to adapt its infrastructure to meet the rising demand. The new fee structure aligns with Dubai’s vision of becoming a more sustainable city, ensuring resources like water are used efficiently while keeping up with the city's expansion.
As one of the world's leading global hubs, Dubai is taking steps to balance its growth with environmental conservation, positioning itself for a sustainable future.
