Next month, residents of the UAE will experience their second and most extended holiday of the year, coinciding with the eve of Eid Al Adha. The previous long break occurred in April, during the celebration of Eid Al Fitr.
As per the UAE's official holiday announcement, employees in the country will have three more long breaks for the remainder of the year on the eve of Eid Al Adha. These breaks will be observed on the eve of Eid Al Adha, Hirji New Year, and to mark the birthday of Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him).
According to astronomers' calculations, it is expected that both the public and private sectors in the UAE will have holidays for Eid Al Adha starting from the 9th to the 12th of Zul Hijjah. Zul Hijjah is the final month of the Islamic calendar, which follows a lunar system and typically consists of either 29 or 30 days.
According to the Gregorian calendar, Eid Al Adha will be observed from Tuesday, June 27, to Sunday, July 2, providing a six-day break that includes the weekend, allowing people to enjoy the Festival of Sacrifice.
The next extended break will occur during the Hijri New Year, with Friday, July 21, designated as a public holiday. This will grant employees a three-day break, including the regular two-day weekend.
The fourth and final extended break will take place on Friday, September 29, 2023, in celebration of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). This will provide employees in the UAE with another three-day weekend.
Furthermore, the holidays for UAE National Day, celebrated on December 2 and 3, will fall over the weekend, ensuring an extended break for the population.
