The 'Reaching the Last Mile Forum' will occur on Dec. 3 at Expo City Dubai as part of COP28.
The forum will be part of COP28's first-ever dedicated health day and will focus on progress to fight polio, malaria, and other tropical diseases.
Global and community leaders, donors, NGOs and other stakeholders will come together at the forum to work towards solving the climate-health issues faced by the last mile communities.
The forum will present evidence of the effects of climate change on human health and infectious diseases.
Reaching the Last Mile Forum will also work towards building resilient healthcare systems and identifying funding sources for their climate-health action.
The 2023 forum will also serve leading global convening on last-mile disease elimination for diseases like polio and malaria.
UAE's President Sheikh Mohamed launched the Reaching the Last Mile initiative with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2017.
In January 2023, the UAE delivered a five million boost to an international campaign that aimed at addressing the effects of climate change on the efforts to eliminate malaria.
This campaign will be funded by the Reaching the Last Mile initiative for the next three years.
In June 2023, Sheikh Mohamed spoke to Bill Gates about improving efforts to fight global epidemic diseases like polio.
