In a departure from the norm since the year 2000, Ramadan in Dubai is set to be observed during the wintertime in 2024. Winter officially commences on December 21st, concluding on March 20th, with spring ushering in on March 21st.

Ramadan, a lunar-based observance, traditionally begins and ends with the sighting of the crescent moon. The lunar calendar, being shorter than the Gregorian calendar, results in a shifting start date for Ramadan each year, moving up by 10 to 12 days. This cyclical pattern allows the holy month to traverse different seasons over a 33-year cycle.

In 2024, Ramadan is expected to commence on Monday, March 11th, marking a unique occurrence as the faithful prepare for a wintertime experience. The crescent moon is anticipated to be visible on Sunday, March 10th.

As Muslims eagerly anticipate this distinctive alignment of Ramadan with winter, the upcoming observance is poised to offer a novel and memorable experience, breaking the pattern established over the past two decades. Stay tuned for updates as the Islamic community prepares for this historic and spiritual occasion.
