Qatar Central Bank Launches Special World Cup Coins
Qatar Central Bank launched on Tuesday 9 November the issuance of commemorative coins for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, during a ceremony held on this occasion, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani, Governor of the Qatar Central Bank, and Mr. Gianni Infantino, President of the FIFA, along with several dignitaries and state officials.
In his speech, His Excellency the Governor referred to the stages of preparation for the issuance of these currencies, as the designs were worked on by a special team for issuing commemorative coins at the Qatar Central Bank, saying, "We were keen to reflect the identity and legacy of the State of Qatar and its history in football."

He pointed out that the commemorative coins included paper currencies, which are considered the first commemorative paper currency issued by the Qatar Central Bank using polymer, which preserves it for hundreds of years as a witness to this historic achievement of the State of Qatar.
He stated that commemorative coins will be distributed to national and local banks and exchange houses.
In the same context, Mr. Khaled Al-Kuwari, Director of the Monetary Department at Qatar Central Bank, confirmed in statements to the two newspapers that the 2022 FIFA World Cup is a source of pride for Islamic countries and the Arab world, noting that the Qatar Central Bank offered coins, which include the most important stadiums in the tournament, As stadiums: Al Bait, Lusail, Al Thumama, and Khalifa Stadium, which are the first commemorative issued by the bank, saying: "We hope that these currencies will be a legacy that will be passed on to future generations."
He pointed out that the selling price of the paper currency will be 75 riyals, while its nominal value will be 22 riyals.
In turn, Mr. Khaled Al-Nama, the official spokesman for the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, explained in a press statement that coins were and still are one of the main means of documentation, and the presence of such commemorative documentary coins, which were issued today, came to commemorate this pivotal historical event, not only in the history of Qatar but rather the Arab world history, where the issuance was the result of cooperation between the Qatar Central Bank, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and the International Football Association "FIFA".
In a related context, Qatar Central Bank announced earlier the launch of the "Humayan" card, the first prepaid national payment card with a Qatari brand, and the first of its kind in the State of Qatar.
The bank clarified that the card is similar to electronic payment cards issued by global payment networks.
The name "Humayan" comes from the bag of money used by merchants in the past.
The Central Bank said in a tweet on its official account on Twitter that this comes as part of efforts to develop electronic payment services and enhance financial inclusion in the country.
The bank also identified a number of card features, noting that it does not require a minimum balance, supports contactless transactions, and has lower costs for processing payment transactions for both card issuers, collectors, and merchants.
