Pakistan Observed a Day of Mourning for Ismail Haniyeh

Pakistan announced on Thursday, Aug. 1 that it would observe a national day of mourning for late Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on Friday, Aug. 2.

Various religious and political parties also planned to hold demonstrations for the late Hamas chief on Friday.

The country's Prime Minister condemned the assassination of Haniyeh. He said to ruling alliance lawmakers in Islamabad, Pakistan, "Israel has trampled upon all international laws by committing this act."

Hamas and Iran announced Haniyeh's assassination early on Wednesday, Jul. 31, done by an Israeli airstrike in Tehran.

Sharif also highlighted how Haniyeh's sons and other family members were killed in Gaza during the ongoing war.

Haniyeh was buried on Friday in Lusail's cemetery in Doha, Qatar. Funeral prayers were held at Qatar’s Imam Muhammed bin Abdul Wahhab mosque.

The funeral was attended by Turkish officials, Hamas and its rival Fatah's members, and by the public. 

In addition to Pakistan, Türkiye also observed a day of mourning for the late Hamas chief.
