Oscars 2025: Palestinian-Israeli Film 'No Other Land' Wins

The Palestinian-Israeli documentary 'No Other Land' won the 'Best Documentary' award at the 2025 Oscars on Sunday, Mar. 2.
The film's co-directors, Palestinian activist Basel Adra and Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham, received the award at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles.
In their speeches, both directors called for an end to the "ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.” The commentary film shows Adra documenting the destruction of his hometown by Israeli soldiers at the southern edge of the West Bank.
The activist risks arrest to record the Israeli military's destruction of the area to transform it into a military training zone.
Adra's pleas fall on deaf ears until he befriends an Israeli journalist who helps him amplify his story.
In his acceptance speech, Adra said, "About two months ago, I became a father, and my hope to my daughter that she will not have to live the same life I’m living now, always fearing settlers, violence, home demolitions and forcible displacements."
The Israeli journalist Abraham said, "We made this film, Palestinians and Israelis, because together, our voices are stronger".
The documentary film had a successful run on the film festival circuit; however, it was not able to find a US distributor after being nominated for the Oscars and chosen for distribution in 24 countries.
'No Other Land' beat 'Porcelain War,' 'Sugarcane,' 'Black Box Diaries,' and 'Soundtrack to a Coup d’État' for the Oscar.
