Ooredoo, the official telecommunications operator for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, announced that it will provide telecommunications service on more than 350 FIFA official buses during the World Cup, which will be hosted by Doha next November, including 300 The bus will be equipped with a "WiFi" system managed according to transportation standards, this was during a press conference held at Ooredoo Tower, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad bin Nasser Al Thani, Chief Commercial Officer of Ooredoo, and Mr. Colin Smith, Executive Director of Operations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

In this context, Ooredoo will provide buses with managed Wi-Fi and Mobile Broadband; To ensure that players, FIFA officials, and media representatives have easy access to the Internet and are able to stay connected even while moving between the stadiums and facilities of the tournament, Wi-Fi services will be monitored and managed in real-time using systems hosted in the data center of “Ooredoo” Qatar.

On this occasion, Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad bin Nasser Al Thani, Chief Commercial Officer, Ooredoo, said: “Our strategic commitment to investing in innovations and forging partnerships with the world’s leading technology providers, has made us well-prepared to offer our cutting-edge products and services during this historic event.

FIFA players and officials need to stay in touch to ensure that tournament events, matches, and related events run in the best possible manner, while media representatives need fast internet on the go to allow them to keep the tournament news up to date with their followers around the world.

Ooredoo will use modern technology such as QR codes to enable users to access the Internet easily, quickly, and efficiently while they are on the bus.

The company indicated that providing the buses with mobile broadband and managed Wi-Fi, will help ensure communications for players and FIFA officials, while media representatives will be able to upload files and video content and share broadcast content over Ooredoo's wireless network while the buses travel between various locations.

It is noteworthy that Ooredoo's 5G network technology contributed to making Qatar the first country to operate a 5G network on a commercial scale in the world in 2018, and the company tested 5G mobile broadband in mobile vehicles shortly thereafter.

Ooredoo's ongoing development process demonstrates the company's commitment to supporting Qatar's efforts to achieve the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, including digital transformation and the transformation into a smart country.
