New Two-Lane Bridge Opens on Sheikh Rashid Road Dubai
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled the second bridge under Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. This newly opened bridge is designed to enhance traffic flow between key intersections, offering a smoother driving experience for residents and commuters.
The bridge stretches 605 meters and features two lanes, accommodating up to 3,200 vehicles per hour. It connects the intersection of Al Mina Street and Sheikh Rashid Road to the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road.
Milestones of Phase 4
Phase 4 includes the construction of four bridges totaling 3.1 kilometers in length, with a combined capacity of approximately 19,400 vehicles per hour. The first bridge of this phase, opened in December 2024, spans 1,335 meters and has three lanes, allowing up to 4,800 vehicles per hour to move seamlessly from Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to Al Mina Street and the Falcon Intersection.
Looking ahead, two additional bridges are slated for completion by mid-2025. These include:
- A Three-Lane Bridge (1,210 meters): Facilitating traffic from Al Mina Street to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, with a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour.
- A Three-Lane Bridge (780 meters): Supporting traffic from Al Mina Street to Al Wasl Road, also accommodating 4,800 vehicles per hour.
Another two-lane bridge is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2025. Spanning 985 meters, this bridge will handle 3,200 vehicles per hour from Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street and the Falcon Intersection.
Broader Improvements in Phase 4
Beyond bridges, Phase 4 encompasses the development of 4.8 kilometers of roads, upgrades to surface intersections, and the addition of two pedestrian bridges. Key streets, including Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street, will see significant enhancements. Supporting infrastructure includes modern street lighting, traffic systems, and upgraded rainwater drainage and irrigation networks.
Al Shindagha Corridor: Transforming Dubai's Traffic Flow
The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project is one of Dubai’s most ambitious infrastructure undertakings. Spanning 13 kilometers, it connects Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street, improving access to key areas like Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid.
When fully completed, the corridor is expected to benefit over one million residents by cutting travel time dramatically—from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2030. The project will also enhance traffic safety and deliver long-term economic benefits, with an estimated Dh45 billion in savings from reduced travel times over 20 years.
With these developments, Dubai continues to solidify its reputation as a global leader in urban planning and transport innovation.
