The law aims to safeguard the rights of inmates and facilitate appropriate social and cultural reintegration. As per the new regulations, punitive and correctional facilities in Abu Dhabi will be renamed as rehabilitation and correctional centers.
These centers, overseen by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, are responsible for receiving inmates, determining suitable care plans, and informing them of their obligations and expected conduct. Additionally, they must offer healthcare and social services, educational opportunities, and rehabilitation programs.
Furthermore, the centers are tasked with enhancing staff capabilities by international standards to effectively manage inmate rehabilitation and ensure efficient economic practices.
