The Sand Castle is a gripping mystery thriller that follows a family of four who find themselves stuck on a picturesque island hiding a shocking reality. What starts as child’s play and simple ways to pass the time begins to uncover dark secrets that they struggle to keep from the youngest, Jana. As events spiral out of control and the line between reality and fiction blurs, the family is forced to confront harsh truths and difficult choices, testing their resilience and their hopes of making it back home.
Premiering exclusively on Netflix on 24 January 2025, The Sand Castle stars Lebanese actor and filmmaker Nadine Labaki, who leads a talented ensemble cast, both established and rising stars from across the Arab region. This project reunites Labaki with Syrian-born actor, Zain Al Rafeea and his sister Riman Al Rafeea making another memorable collaboration after their impressive 2018 performance in the acclaimed and award-winning film Capernaum, which Labaki directed. Labaki is also joined by acclaimed Palestinian actor, Ziad Bakri.
Gianluca Chakra’s Front Row Filmed Entertainment and Mario Jr. Haddad’s Empire Entertainment, collaborated with Houston King’s HK Films and Mandy Ward’s Akward Productions in producing The Sand Castle with Mayada Hiraki serving as Executive Producer.
The Sand Castle presents an emotional and powerful cinematic journey that explores the fragility of childhood innocence through the eyes of Jana, portrayed by Riman, who plays Labaki’s daughter.
Emmy-Nominee Matty Brown makes his directorial feature debut with The Sand Castle which he co-wrote with Jordanian Yasmina Kharaja and Egyptian-Qatari Hend Fakhroo.
