Lebanese director and actress Nadine Labaki has been named one of the jury members for the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
Labaki has been named a jury member for the 77th Cannes Film Festival six years after she became the first Arab woman to win a big award at the festival.
Labaki was named jury member along with 'Barbie' director Greta Gerwig, who will head the Cannes jury, and 'Killers of the Flower Moon' star Lily Gladstone.
Along with these stars, Kore-era Hirokazu, Juan Antonio Bayona, Ebru Ceylan, Eva Greene, Pierfrancisco Favino, and Omar Sy will also be part of the Cannes jury.
The Cannes jury will review 22 films that are part of the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
The jury will select winners across various categories including the winner of the Palme d’Or for the best film. The winners will be announced on the last day of the festival Saturday, May 25.
Nadine Labaki won the Jury Prize in 2018 for 'Capernaum' and in the following year, she became the first Lebanese filmmaker to be nominated for an Oscar.
The Lebanese filmmaker has also starred in 'Perfect Strangers', 'Costa Brava', and 'Lebanon'.
Labaki was also part of the jury at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, therefore this is the second time she has become a jury member for a prominent international film festival.
