Microsoft has hired former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Greg Brockman to lead a team focused on artificial intelligence after the former was fired from the company they co-founded.

The news was shared by Microsft's Chief Executive Satya Nadella on X that Altman and Brockman "will be joining Microsoft to lead a new advanced AI research team".
Sam Altman reshared Nadella's tweet, adding, "The mission continues".
How Was Sam Altman Fired?
Altman was abruptly fired from OpenAI's board on Friday, Nov. 17.
Brockman quickly resigned after Altman's termination.
However, both men were in talks to rejoin OpenAI but these fell through on Sunday, Nov, 19.
Emmet Shear as OpenAI's Interim CEO
On Sunday, OpenAI also announced Emmet Shear as interim chief executive of the company.
Shear, who is the co-founder of streaming service Twitch, wrote about his new position on X "I took this job because I believe that OpenAI is one of the most important companies currently in existence."
A good number of OpenAI's employees were displeased with Altman's termination with plans of leaving the company.
