Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, announced that they will be launching a new paid subscription service for Facebook and Instagram users. This service will enable users to verify their accounts for a monthly fee of up to $14.99.
According to a Facebook post by Zuckerberg, Facebook has introduced a new feature called Meta Verified that allows users to obtain a blue badge, receive extra protection against accounts impersonating them, and access customer support directly. This information was shared in a Facebook post by Mark Zuckerberg.
Meta Verified will be launched in Australia and New Zealand this week. Users in these countries will have the option to access it via the web for a price of $11.99 or on Apple's iOS operating system and on Android for a monthly subscription of $14.99. This information was conveyed in a post.
In 2021, Apple implemented privacy changes that limited Meta's ability to track users' online behavior, which has negatively impacted Meta's advertising revenue. Meta, formerly known as Facebook, estimated in February 2022 that it would lose over $10 billion in advertising income for 2022 due to these changes, which represents about 8% of its total revenue in 2021.
Meta, the company that owns social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, has recently announced significant cost-cutting measures, which include its largest-ever reduction in workforce. This reduction resulted in approximately 11,000 employees losing their jobs, which accounts for approximately 13% of Meta's total workforce.
According to a statement from Zuckerberg, users will be able to verify their Meta accounts using a government ID. However, a source familiar with the matter clarified that a government ID will be mandatory for account authentication and that Meta will monitor accounts for impersonation. In addition, Meta Verified accounts will have access to additional features to enhance their visibility and reach, such as increased prominence in search and recommendations.
