Messi Breaks 10 Records After Beating Croatia
Legend Lionel Messi continued to break records in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, after achieving 10 records in his country's victory over Croatia (3-0) at Lusail Stadium and qualifying for the final match.
The first number that Messi achieved after the semi-final match is to reach 25 matches in the World Cup tournaments, equaling the record of former German player Lothar Matthaus as the most participating player in the competition.
Messi, of course, will break this record in the final match and become the most participating player in the World Cup ever, with 26 matches
Messi played 3 matches in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, 5 matches in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, 7 matches in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, 4 matches in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and 6 matches in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
On the other hand, Matthaus played 25 matches in the 1982, 1986, 1990, 1994, and 1998 World Cups.
As for the second record, Messi became the historic scorer for Argentina in the World Cup finals with 11 goals, after scoring five goals in the World Cup in Qatar, to surpass the previous record registered in the name of Gabriel Batistuta (10 in 12 matches).
While the third record is Messi's equation, the historical record of his country's national team legend Diego Armando Maradona in assisting goals after he assisted the third goal scored by Julian Alvarez against Croatia, to raise his tally to 8 assists in the World Cup, which is the same number as the late Maradona.
As for the fourth record, it is that with his fifth goal in the World Cup in Qatar, he became the oldest player (35 years and 172 days) to score five goals in one World Cup tournament.
Messi's fifth record in the World Cup in Qatar is that he is among only six players who have scored in the eighth, quarter, and semi-finals of the same edition of the World Cup since the World Cup in Mexico in 1986.

As for the eighth Messi record in the World Cup in Qatar, he created 68 chances in the World Cup finals, surpassing the number of his compatriot Maradona, who created 67 chances, to become the most player creating opportunities in the World Cup since the 1966 edition.
As for the ninth record for the Argentine star, he is the player who contributes the most to goals in the knockout stages since 1966, with 5 goals, surpassing Pele with 4 goals.
While the tenth record is that Messi has become the only player to provide assists in each of the five editions of the World Cup in which he participated, in addition to the Brazilian Pele, the Polish Grzegorz Lato, his compatriot Diego Maradona and the Englishman David Beckham, who made goals in three different editions.
