The Scottish man who gained popularity in 2015 for his mother-in-law's controversial, internet-splitting black-and-blue or gold-and-white dress is now being charged with an attempt to murder his wife.
The dress worn by Johnston's mother-in-law earned the title of "The Dress That Broke the Internet" after Caitlin McNeill, a guest at his wedding, posted a photo of it on Tumblr in 2015. She had asked for help in determining whether the outfit was blue and black or white and gold in order to solve the color dilemma which later led to media engagements by Johnston including appearances on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.
The attempted murder of his wife, Grace Johnston, was allegedly attempted by Keir Johnston, 38, of the Isle of Colonsay, who made his court appearance at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday.
In March, he allegedly tried to kill Grace by pinning her to the ground and choking her neck after engaging in an 11-year campaign of coercive control and domestic abuse against her.
Keir strongly denied every allegation made against him, including that he frequently beat his wife at home before flashing a knife and attempting to choke her.
According to the prosecution, Johnston's violent behavior toward his wife developed over the course of the couple's relationship and resulted in an attempt to kill her.
