Dubai Basketball has officially added a major talent to its roster with the signing of Lebanese basketball icon Wael Arakji for the 2024/25 season. Known as "The Fearsome," Arakji is a high-scoring powerhouse and one of the Middle East’s most decorated players.
The 30-year-old joins Dubai Basketball during their debut ABA League season, bringing international experience from leagues in Lebanon, Qatar, Tunisia, and China, as well as the NBA Summer League with the Dallas Mavericks. Among his career highlights are two FIBA Asia Champions Cup titles, cementing his reputation as one of the region’s finest.
An MVP Legacy
Arakji's dominance on the court has made him a national hero in Lebanon. He led his country to victory in the 2022 Arab Basketball Championship and claimed the runner-up spot in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup, earning MVP honors in both tournaments. Averaging 26 points per game in the Asia Cup, he showcased a scoring ability that will be a major asset for Dubai Basketball.
Aiming for Playoffs
Arakji will debut with Dubai Basketball against Mornar on Sunday, December 15, at Coca-Cola Arena. The team is currently 8-3 in the ABA League and pushing for playoff contention.
Head Coach Jurica Golemac expressed confidence in Arakji’s impact:
“Wael’s experience and offensive skills will add tremendous value. While adapting to our system will take time, his talent is indisputable. He’s a fantastic representative of the growing strength of GCC basketball.”
