In the wake of Spain's Euro 2024 victory celebrations, Real Madrid supporters have another reason to rejoice. The club officially unveiled French superstar Kylian Mbappé to an electrified crowd at Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
An estimated 85,000 fans gathered to witness Mbappé's grand entrance, a turnout expected to surpass the record set 15 years ago by Cristiano Ronaldo. Although tickets were free, they were quickly snatched up, with some fans even attempting to resell them to capitalize on the excitement surrounding the world's top striker.
In the morning, Mbappé signed a five-season contract with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. By midday (1000 GMT), he made his debut at the stadium, greeting fans and holding a press conference.
Mbappé, who led France as captain during the Euros, will have a few more days off before starting his season in Madrid. At 25, he fulfills a lifelong dream of joining Los Blancos, donning the number 9 jersey that went on sale last Thursday in Real's stores, now adorned with his image.
Coming from Paris Saint-Germain, where he played since 2017, Mbappé's arrival follows a personally disappointing Euro 2024 campaign, overshadowed by Spain's teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. Despite a challenging season at PSG and his decision not to renew his contract, Mbappé expressed relief and excitement about his transfer to Real Madrid.
"It's an immense pleasure and a dream come true. This is the club I've always dreamed of being at," Mbappé shared in June. "I'm going there with a lot of excitement and a lot of humility."
Under the guidance of Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, Mbappé will form a dynamic offensive trio with England's Jude Bellingham and Brazil's Vinicius Junior. The prospect of this powerful lineup has already thrilled fans, especially after Real Madrid secured their 15th Champions League title in June.
Stay tuned as the excitement continues to build for Mbappé's debut season with Real Madrid.
