The monarch of the United Kingdom King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace.
The cancer was diagnosed during his recent treatment for an enlarged prostate.
King Charles began treatment for his ailment on Monday, Feb. 5 and because of his treatment, his public duties have been postponed.
The statement from the palace emphasized that the monarch is optimistic about his treatment. It read, "remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible."
However, there were no details provided about what cancer the monarch had and the stage of his cancer.
Although, the King has postponed his public duties, he will continue his constitutional role as head of state including paperwork and private meetings.
The monarch informed his immediate family about his disease and his son Prince Harry is expected to travel to the UK in the coming days to visit his father.
Prince William will be returning to his royal duties this week after taking time off to support his wife after her surgery.
No confirmation has been given about the King's return to his public duties yet and until then counsellors of state need to be appointed to carry out the said duties.
At the moment, these include Queen Camilla, Prince William, the Princess Royal, and Prince Edward.
