Dubai, UAE - Travelers are advised to brace for delays and diversions as the annual Dubai Marathon, set to dominate the city streets on Sunday, January 7th, forces major road closures across the city.

This year's Dubai Marathon, marking a return to its original scenic route around Jumeirah, is expected to create disruptions around Dubai from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The planned 42km route will take participants through iconic landmarks, including the Palm Jumeirah trunk and Jumeirah Beach Hotel. The marathon kicks off near Madinat Jumeirah, heading towards the Dubai College junction on Al Sufouh.

The iconic sporting event will start and finish on Umm Suqeim Road for the usual three races: the 4km fun run, the 10km road race and the classic 42.195km marathon. After reaching The Westin, the marathon route takes a turn at the traffic lights and heads back along Al Sufouh, passing the starting point and progressing onto Beach Road.

The scenic journey continues past Jumeirah Beach Hotel, the new Marsa Al Arab, and extends to the Creek bridge. Runners then make a turn towards Madinat Jumeirah, completing two loops before making their way to the finish line. The final stretch includes a left turn at Madinat Jumeirah, concluding just before the Dubai Police Academy.

With the marathon set to attract participants and spectators alike, residents are advised to plan their travel accordingly and anticipate traffic disruptions throughout the event duration. Stay tuned for real-time updates on road closures and alternative routes to navigate the city with minimal inconvenience.
