Prior to the screening of Louis XV period drama “Jeanne du Barry,” the opening film of the Cannes Film Festival, on Tuesday, Johnny Depp appeared to be back in full superstar mode, signing autographs and posing for photos with fans.
This is the actor's first significant role following his well-known defamation conviction, Reuters reported.
In "Jeanne du Barry," Depp plays King Louis XV, directed and starring French actor and director Mawenn Le Besco, also known as Mawenn, as the French courtesan Madame du Barry, who ascended the social ladder at Versailles to become the king's favorite.

A US jury handed Depp a near-total victory in his defamation battle with ex wife and actress Amber Heard, paying him more than $10 million in damages.
Fans were spotted holding posters that said "Congrats, Johnny" and "We are sorry" with a heart in the city on the French Riviera.
The festival lived up to its glitzy image, with a parade of celebrities walking the red carpet, including Mads Mikkelsen, a blue-haired Helen Mirren, and John C. Reilly.
Michael Douglas did not stop to sign autographs as he entered the Grand Theatre Lumiere, where the 78-year-old actor was awarded an honorary Palme d'Or. He was accompanied by his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, and their daughter.
