Ushba Tesoro, with jockey Yuga Kawada, made a stunning comeback to win the $12 million Dubai World Cup for Japan on March 25, overtaking the last remaining competitor and securing a 2 3/4-length win, leaving behind Frankie Dettori and Country Grammer's hopes of a storybook finish. The impressive win added to Japan's tally of wins in the prestigious race.
“I’m very proud of my horse and myself for winning the greatest race in the world,” Kawada stated.

Despite being faced with the challenge of overcoming kick-back, Ushba Tesoro, an imposing 9-1 contender, rallied from behind and circled the field with impressive speed. With a remarkable turn of pace, he overtook James Doyle's mount, Algiers, to secure the win by two and three-quarter lengths. Ushba Tesoro has won five out of his six starts since being switched to the dirt.
Noboru Takagi, the winning trainer of Ushba Tesoro, expressed his delight after the horse's victory, marking Japan's second triumph in the Dubai World Cup.
Takagi praised Yuga Kawada, one of Japan's top jockeys, and stated that he was confident in Ushba Tesoro's abilities at the 100-meter mark. The trainer also shared that they would discuss with the horse's owners about his future prospects.
