Oscar-winning US actor Jamie Foxx announced that he will resume his work following an unidentified medical problem that brought his health to the forefront.

"I went through something that I thought I would never ever go through," Foxx said in an Instagram message posted overnight Friday to Saturday. He still did not say what went wrong with his health.

The 55-year-old was filming a Netflix movie when he was taken urgently to a hospital in Georgia in April.

No information on his health was provided, which raised the possibility that the Django Unchained actor may be dealing with a serious health issue.

"I didn't want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through," he said.

He mockingly crossed his eyes to demonstrate that "the eyes are working just fine," and then he moved his arm to show that he wasn't crippled.

Despite acknowledging that his "road to recovery had some potholes aswell," Foxx promised in the statement that he was "coming back and I'm able to work."

His daughter Corinne confirmed in May that he had been released from the hospital for several weeks.

"If you see me out from now on and every once and a while I just burst into tears, it's because it's been tough, man," the actor said. "I was sick, man. But now I've got my legs under me, so you're gonna see me out."

The Ray Charles musical biography Ray garnered Foxx an Academy Award in 2005. That same year, Collateral received an Oscar nomination. Foxx is an actor, comedian, and Grammy-winning singer.

He was recently filming Back in Action co-starring Cameron Diaz, in Georgia.
