Performing the stunt during the third edition of the ‘1 Billion Followers Summit,’ Roose defied gravity and entertained audiences with daring moves, including lying flat on the thin line and even hanging upside down. “People want emotions,” Roose said. “I gave them a challenging walk while having fun myself—it’s a win-win.”
The Skywalk Challenge
Roose explained that walking between two skyscrapers came with unique challenges. “These towers may look similar, but their different heights and anchor points made the walk uphill and tricky,” he shared. Despite the shaky line caused by wind at 734 feet, Roose remained composed, using breathing techniques and pausing to relax tense muscles. “Every step has to be perfect, especially in tough conditions.”
The Estonian slackliner completed the daring feat three times in a single day: at sunrise, midday for a live audience, and at sunset, calling the golden-hour walk “absolutely stunning.”
Journey of a World Champion
Roose’s rise to slacklining fame started in his hometown in Estonia, where he transitioned from parkour to slacklining at age 18 after discovering the sport online. Over the years, he has set multiple world records and performed incredible feats, including a 3.6 km walk across the Messina Strait on a line just 1.9 cm thick.
Beyond slacklining, Roose has worked as a stuntman in Hollywood’s Assassin’s Creed and joined Madonna’s MDNA World Tour as a performer. In Dubai, Roose reflected on the sacrifices behind his journey, including leaving his job at La Perle to perfect his signature double backflip—a move that took him six years to master.
1 Billion Followers Summit
Roose’s gravity-defying performance was part of the world’s largest event for content creators, hosted at Dubai’s Emirates Towers, Dubai International Financial Centre, and Museum of the Future. Bringing together 15,000 creators from 195 countries, the summit highlighted the evolving creator economy.
Reflecting on his feat, Roose said, “It feels better standing on the ground than a slackline as thin as a finger.” But for this birthday daredevil, the thrill of walking in the sky remains unmatched.
