Ireland to Recognize Palestinian State by the End of May

Ireland's Minister of Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin recently announced that his country will recognize Palestine as a state by the end of May.
Martin shared this news on Wednesday, May 15 in a conversation with the Newstalk radio station.
European Union members Spain, Ireland, Slovakia and Malta said that they will recognize Palestinian statehood in March.
Recently, the EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell shared that Spain, Ireland and Slovenia are set to recognize the Palestinian state on Tuesday, May 21 and other members of the union might follow suit.
However, on Wednesday, Ireland's foreign minister did not provide a set day for recognizing Palestine as a state.
Instead, he said, "The specific date is still fluid because we’re still in discussions with some countries in respect of a joint recognition of a Palestinian state."
Martin shared that he also had to host further consultations with other countries' foreign ministers.
In April, Spanish Premier Pedro Sanchez and Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris revealed that their countries would coordinate the recognition together.
