In Balasore, Odisha, India, a passenger train collided with the derailed coaches of another railway on Friday Evening, causing at least 600 injuries and an estimated total of 70 deaths. Many people are presumed to be trapped.

According to local officials, more than 50 ambulances and numerous fire service units have been rushed to the collision location as part of rescue efforts.

Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena said, "As per the latest information we have received at 11:45 pm, 600 people were injured and they have been shifted to hospital, the exact number of casualties is yet to be received. As of now, the figure we have got is between 55-60 casualties.”

As per the Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology of India, those injured in the accident will receive up to $12,136 in compensation for their losses, $2,427 in compensation for severe injuries, and $606 in compensation for comparatively minor injuries.

The accident occurred close to Bahanaga Bazar station when the train was traveling from the Shalimar station in Kolkata to Chennai Central station at approximately 7.20 p.m.
