Huge Fire Breaks Out at Yas Island, No Injuries Reported
Emergency services quickly respond to a fire at a construction site near Yas Waterworld

A fire broke out at a construction site next to Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi on Friday afternoon, sending thick black smoke over nearby attractions, including Ferrari World and Yas Marina Circuit. The fire started around 2 PM in the direction of the airport, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
Roads Closed as Firefighters Contain Blaze
Authorities quickly sealed off routes around the theme park, redirecting traffic on Yas Bay to ensure emergency responders had clear access. Firefighters from Abu Dhabi Police and Civil Defence successfully controlled and extinguished the blaze. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.
Fire at Yas Waterworld’s Expansion Site
The fire is believed to have started in an under-construction area of Yas Waterworld. Miral, the park’s developer, had announced a major expansion in December, covering 16,900 square meters. The project includes 18 new rides and attractions, 3.3km of slides, and the UAE’s highest water slide. It will also feature the first waterpark ride in the GCC integrated within a waterslide complex.
Airport Operations Unaffected
Despite the fire's proximity, Zayed International Airport, located about 12km from Yas Island, confirmed that its operations remained unaffected. Authorities have yet to release further details on the cause of the fire.
Officials assured the public that safety remains a top priority, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
