Residents and visitors in the UAE have a unique opportunity to witness the Leonid meteor shower, renowned for its high-speed celestial display. The Leonids, consisting of comet debris, illuminate the night sky with colorful streaks as they enter Earth's atmosphere, moving at a speed of 71 kilometers per second, over 200 times faster than a bullet.
The Leonids meteor shower, one of the most well-known astronomical events, reaches its peak in mid-November every year. For those eager to observe this celestial event, Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah offers an ideal viewing location. Recognized as one of the UAE's best stargazing locations, Jebel Jais will host a special viewing event organized by the Dubai Astronomy Group (DAG).
This event, scheduled for the evenings of Friday, November 17, and Saturday, November 18, from 10 PM to 3 AM, aims to provide an enhanced stargazing experience to attendees. The program includes the use of telescopes and expert guidance from DAG members. Attendees are advised to bring their own snacks and blankets for comfort, as the location is remote and temperatures may be cool.
Ticket pricing is set at Dhs200 for children under 13 and Dhs250 for adults, with a special discounted rate of Dhs150 for DAG members. Interested individuals are encouraged to register on the DAG website, where they will receive further details about the event, including the meeting point.
