Emirati Hazza Al Mansouri is set to enter history and become the first Emirati astronaut, selected from among thousands of applicants for a mission within the International Space Station, which will be launched on 25 September.
According to news reports, Mansouri will be the third Arab to go to space, preceded in this historic achievement by Saudi Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Syrian Mohammed Faris, during the eighties of the last century.
In 1985, the Saudi Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud spacewalked into space aboard Discovery, launching the Arab satellite.
It was on June 17, 1985, historic, and the world witnessed the first Arab astronaut, and the space shuttle has 3 astronauts of 3 different nationalities: America, France and Saudi Arabia.
As for the second Arab astronaut, he is the Syrian Mohammad Fares, who was selected in 1985 with three other Syrian scientists to participate in the program of cooperation in the field of space with the Soviet Union.
Fares became the first Syrian astronaut and the second Arab astronaut to launch on 22 July 1987 aboard the Soyuz M3 spacecraft to the Mir space station.
