Halal-Certified Alcohol-Free Beer Launched in UAE
A new beverage inspired by an ancient Arabian Peninsula drink hits the market

A Russian entrepreneur in Dubai has introduced a unique alcohol-free beer that has received official halal certification in the UAE. Developed by Midtown Factory under the brand name Majlis, the drink is crafted using a special brewing method that preserves its authentic taste while ensuring it remains alcohol-free.
Reviving an Ancient Tradition
Igor Sergunin, CEO of Midtown Factory and the mind behind Majlis Premium Arabian Ale, explained that the beverage is inspired by a centuries-old Arabian drink. Historically brewed as a non-alcoholic beverage believed to aid digestion, it was consumed by travelers for sustained energy. Majlis follows a similar brewing process but uses controlled yeast to maintain its halal status.
Strict Halal Compliance and Natural Ingredients
Sergunin emphasized that Majlis adheres to strict halal standards. “Our ingredients—malt, water, yeast, and hops—naturally produce essential vitamins like B1, B6, B15, C, and D. With the right technology, we ensure all our products remain halal,” he said. The company secured halal certification from UAE authorities after undergoing rigorous product testing.
Unlike traditional methods that remove alcohol after fermentation, Majlis is brewed to remain alcohol-free from start to finish. This ensures it meets halal guidelines without compromising the complexity of a brewed beverage.
A Healthier Alternative to Sugary Drinks and Energy Boosters
Sergunin's motivation for creating Majlis stemmed from his concern over unhealthy processed beverages available for his children. “Most drinks on the market contain processed ingredients. I wanted to offer something healthier,” he said, highlighting that Majlis contains no processed sugar, only natural sweeteners.
Positioned as an alternative to energy drinks, Majlis provides long-lasting energy without artificial additives. It is available in five distinct varieties, though Sergunin prefers to call them “tastes” rather than flavors.
More Than Just a Drink — A Social Experience
The name ‘Majlis’ reflects its purpose—bringing people together. “Majlis means ‘gathering.’ It’s not about partying, but enjoying a halal-brewed drink in good company,” Sergunin explained. With its roots in the region and Dubai’s diverse market, he sees Majlis as a product poised for global expansion.
