The Missouri woman Gypsy Rose Blanchard, aged 32, who persuaded her online boyfriend to kill her mother in 2015, was released from prison on Thursday, Dec. 29.

Gypsy Rose was granted parole after serving 85% of her original sentence, which included ten years in prison after Rose had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2016.

The National Interest in the Gypsy Rose Case

America became interested in the Gypsy Rose case after it became known her mother Clauddine or 'Dee Dee' Blanchard kept her daughter imprisoned by forcing her to use a wheelchair and Dee Dee also force-fed her daughter through a tube.

The mother forced her daughter to pretend that she had leukaemia, muscular dystrophy, and other serious illnesses.

Clauddine Blanchard did these things because she had Munchausen syndrome by proxy, which is a psychological disorder in which parents or caregivers seek sympathy by faking their children's illnesses.

Gypsy Rose was a healthy young woman yet her mother did not let her be.

Her mother had shaved her hair off to convince doctors to treat her daughter and she also had her daughter's salivary glands forcefully removed.

Gypsy Rose's mother used to tell her daughters' doctors that she had lost her daughter's reports in Hurricane Katherine and if one of them did not believe her, she would go to a different physician.

Clauddine Blanchard's ruse helped her and her daughter receive charitable donations, get a trip to Disney World, and secure a home near Springfield from Habitat for Humanity.

However, the ruse was not limited to just forced and unnecessary treatments. The abuse included Clauddine Blanchard beating Gypsy Rose and chaining her to her bed.

By now, Gypsy Rose understood that she was not sick as her mother had forced her to believe and she wanted out

The Murder of Clauddine Blanchard

In her 2018 trial, Gypsy Rose confessed to persuading her boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn of Big Bend to murder her mother.

Gypsy Rose and Godejohn had met at an online Christian dating website.

According to the probable cause statement, Gypsy Rose provided her boyfriend with the knife and hid in the bathroom while Godejohn stabbed her mother.

After that, the couple travelled to Wisconsin by bus where they were arrested.

Godejohn is serving a life sentence for killing Clauddine Blanchard.

While Gyspy Rose was serving her sentence, she married Ryan Scott Anderson of Saint Charles, Louisiana.

For now, Gypsy Rose is on parole supervision and she has to report to a parole officer until June 2025.
