Dubai: RTA to Ease Traffic on Hessa Street
Road Closures Announced in UAE on Thursday

Aligned with the leadership's vision to boost infrastructure, support urban growth, and enhance residents' quality of life, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is rolling out an extensive project to improve access points for four key residential communities. The upgraded entry and exit points are designed to ease traffic flow and improve connectivity for over 400,000 residents.

Improved Access for Nadd Hessa, Al Awir 1, Al Barsha South, and Wadi Al Safa 3

The new access points, strategically located along major roads like Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and Hessa Street, will benefit areas including Nadd Hessa, Al Awir 1, Al Barsha South, and Wadi Al Safa 3. With these improvements, RTA aims to increase road capacity by 50 to 80 percent, easing daily commutes for residents.

Nadd Hessa: Streamlined Traffic Flow and Reduced Travel Time

One of the key upgrades is at Nadd Hessa. The new entry and exit points connecting to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will feature two lanes that can accommodate 6,000 vehicles per hour. This will serve not only Nadd Hessa but also nearby areas like Warsan 4, Hessa Gardens, and Dubai Silicon Oasis, which have a combined population of over 300,000.

The project includes a new two-lane road and a roundabout that connects Nadd Hessa with Dubai Silicon Oasis. A signalised junction with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will reduce travel time by up to 80%, slashing it from 138 seconds to just 37 seconds.

Al Awir 1: Direct Access from Emirates Road

In Al Awir 1, the RTA is constructing a 7.5 km road linking the area directly to Emirates Road. This will create a seamless route for the over 50,000 residents of Al Awir 1. The project will double the current capacity of the entry points, increasing vehicle flow from 1,500 to 3,000 vehicles per hour.

Al Barsha South: Improvements to Hessa Street

The development works in Al Barsha South are part of the ongoing Hessa Street Development Project. This initiative will directly benefit approximately 75,000 residents. The project includes the addition of a third left-turn lane at the Hessa Street and Al Barsha South intersection, enhancing access to the area. Additionally, Hessa Street will be widened by two lanes over a 1,114-metre stretch, improving traffic flow from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Khail Road.

These upgrades will increase capacity from 6,000 to 9,000 vehicles per hour and reduce wait times at traffic signals from four minutes to just one minute.

Wadi Al Safa 3: Streamlined Access from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road

In Wadi Al Safa 3, the RTA is adding direct access from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, providing residents with smoother connectivity to and from Dubai–Al Ain Road. The 4 km of internal roads and new entry points will significantly reduce travel distances by 10 km, cutting travel time from 10 minutes to just two.

Upcoming Improvements for Al Warqa

In addition to the work in these four areas, RTA is also expanding access to Al Warqa, with plans to create a direct entry and exit from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The project will involve an 8 km expansion of internal roads to handle rising traffic volumes. When complete, this will increase the capacity of Al Warqa 1 Street by 30%, reducing travel time by 80%, from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes.

Additionally, RTA is developing internal roads in Al Warqa 3 and 4, and plans to construct a 16 km cycling track to connect the area to nearby cycling routes.

Looking Ahead

These infrastructure upgrades by Dubai’s RTA are part of a larger effort to enhance the city’s road networks, reduce traffic congestion, and improve mobility for residents. By investing in these strategic access points and road expansions, RTA is helping improve the quality of life for over 400,000 residents and supporting the city’s rapid growth.

Stay tuned for further updates as these projects progress, promising to make daily commutes smoother and more efficient for all.
