The Algerian Ministry of the Interior announced the death of at least 26 people in fires that broke out in the forests in the east of the country.
Interior Minister Kamel Beldjoud stated that at least 26 people were killed and dozens injured in forest fires that swept 14 regions of northern Algeria on Wednesday.
Beljoud said that "the fires destroyed about 1,800 hectares of forests and 800 hectares of forest wealth in the states of El Tarf, Setif, Souk Ahras, Jijel, Skikda and Tipasa."
The Algerian authorities are dealing with huge fires whose spread has expanded, especially in the eastern regions, as a result of the heat wave sweeping the North African region.
