Ford, the American car manufacturer, develops a geofencing technology to automatically reduce the speed of cars when approaching crowded places, such as schools, hospitals, and shopping areas. This technology works by creating a geographical map identical to the actual crowded places, which leads to an automatic reduction in speed, thus reducing the risks to pedestrians in urban areas and contributing to the disposal of as many traffic signs as possible.
This technology is currently being tested in Cologne, Germany. The trial is expected to last a year with Ford's all-electric E-Transit van, and the Company expects it will be able to use the technology in passenger cars in the near future to make everyday driving easier and safer for passengers and pedestrians.
