UAE Airlines Alter Flight Routes Amidst Regional Tensions

Flydubai has cancelled new routes for the second half of 2024 because of jet delivery delays at Boeing and supply chain problems.

The Dubai-based airline has temporarily suspended its flights to Pisa in Italy from October to March 2025.

Other routes that have been cancelled include Riga in Latvia, Tallinn in Estonia, and Vilnius in Lithuania which were scheduled to start in October this year.

Flydubai cancelled these routes after it was notified by Boeing that it would not receive any more planes this year, which will create a capacity shortage during a busy period.

The airline recently launched direct flights to Basel in Switzerland, but will not launch new routes to mitigate the impact of delays in aircraft delivery.

Flydubai expected to receive 12 planes this year, however, they have received only four and were informed in July that they will not receive any more than that this year.

The airline has advised customers whose flights have been affected by this development to visit their website, call their customer care, or contact their travel agent.

Boeing currently struggles with a safety and quality crisis while its rival Airbus is struggling to reach output and production goals, which has affected global airlines' plans to capitalize on the travel demand post-pandemic.
